Hur was <em> father of Bethlehem<\/em> through his son Salma (<span class='bible'>1Ch 2:50-51<\/span>, LXX.). The prince of that place, according to some, and the same with Hareph, <span class='bible'>1Ch 2:51<\/span>,<\/p>\n<p><strong>and Ezer the father of Hushah<\/strong>: thought to be the same with Shuah, <span class='bible'>1Ch 4:11<\/span>,<\/p>\n<p><strong>these are the sons of Hur, the firstborn of Ephratah<\/strong>: Caleb&#8217;s wife, <span class='bible'>1Ch 2:19<\/span> the Targum adds, the same with Miriam; and so other Jewish writers x say, Miriam had two names, and one was Ephratah; though Josephus makes y Hur to be her husband, and not her son, as here:<\/p>\n<p><strong>who was the father of Bethlehem<\/strong>; of the inhabitants of that city, at least part of them, or prince of that place, as his grandson Salma also was, <span class='bible'>1Ch 2:51<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>x Shemot Rabba, sect. 1. fol. 90. 4. Here a Judean town or clan is meant.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gedor.<\/strong>See <span class='bible'>1Ch. 2:51<\/span>, and Note; <span class='bible'>Jos. 15:58<\/span>. Now the ruin called Jedur.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ezer the father of Hushah.<\/strong>Ezer occurs as a name of clans and localities, as well as of persons. (Comp. <span class='bible'>Jdg. 7:24<\/span>, Abi-ezri; <span class='bible'>1Ch. 8:2<\/span>, Abi-ezer; and <span class='bible'>1Sa. 4:1<\/span>, Eben-ezer.) In <span class='bible'>1Ch. 12:9<\/span> and <span class='bible'>Neh. 3:19<\/span> it is a mans name.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hushah.<\/strong>The place is unknown, but several celebrated persons are called Hushathites<em>e.g.,<\/em> Sibbechai, one of Davids heroes, <span class='bible'>1Ch. 11:29<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>These are the sons of Hur.<\/strong>A subscription to the short list of <span class='bible'>1Ch. 4:2-4<\/span>. Penuel the father of Gedor  In 1Ch 4:18, Jered is said to be the father, that is, the founder or lord of Gedor. It is probable they were both concerned in building or governing it. The sons of Hur  By some other wife than her by whom he had the children, mentioned 1Ch 2:20. The father of Beth-lehem  In 1Ch 2:51, Salma is said to be the father of Beth-lehem.
