The pedigree of Bela, another principal man in the tribe of Reuben, is traced up to Joel the father of Shema; the same with Shemaiah, according to Kimchi and Ben Melech, <span class='bible'>1Ch 5:4<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>who dwelt in Aroer<\/strong>; which belonged to the tribe of Gad, and was rebuilt by them, <span class='bible'>Nu 32:34<\/span> wherefore Kimchi observes, it may be interpreted, either from Aroer, or on the border of it, Bela dwelt:<\/p>\n<p><strong>even unto Nebo, and Baalmeon<\/strong>; of which <span class='bible'>[See comments on Nu 32:38]<\/span>.<\/p>\n<h4 align='right'><i><b>Fuente: John Gill&#8217;s Exposition of the Entire Bible<\/b><\/i><\/h4>\n<p>(8) <strong>Bela.<\/strong>His descent is traced, like that of Beerah. but through fewer names. This does not necessarily imply that Bela and Beerah were not contemporaries. Intermediate names are often omitted in genealogies. (See <span class='bible'>Jos. 7:18<\/span> : Achan son of Carmi son of Zabdi son of Zerah, and <span class='bible'>1Ch. 5:24<\/span>, Achan son of Zerah, and the different lengths of the pedigrees of Heman, Asaph, and Ethan in <span class='bible'>1Ch. 6:33-47<\/span>.) It is not likely that the Joel of <span class='bible'>1Ch. 5:8<\/span> is the same as the Joel of <span class='bible'>1Ch. 5:4<\/span>, in spite of the further coincidence of Shema-Shemiah.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who dwelt.<\/strong><em>He was dwelling,<\/em> that is, <em>he and his clan.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Aroer.<\/strong>Now <em>Arir,<\/em> on the north bank of the Arnon (<span class='bible'>Jos. 12:2<\/span>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nebo,<\/strong> a place on the famous mount Nebo, in the region east of the Dead Sea (now <em>Jebel Neba,<\/em> <span class='bible'>Deu. 34:1<\/span>), over against Jericho (<span class='bible'>Num. 32:38<\/span>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Baal-meon.<\/strong>Or, <em>Beth-bqal-meon,<\/em> now <em>Main,<\/em> about two miles south-east of Heshbon. Aroer gives the southern Nebo, and Baalmeon the northern, limits of the tribe.
