It goes as far as the reign of David, or perhaps that of Solomon.<\/p>\n The sons of Aaron – <\/B>This list, a mere repetition of that in 1Ch 6:3-8<\/span>, came, probably, from a different source – a source belonging to the time of David, with whom Ahimaaz (the last name on the list) was contemporary. The other list 1Ch 6:4-15<\/span> came, no doubt, from a document belonging to the time of the captivity (see 1Ch 6:15<\/span>).<\/P> <\/p>\n Verse 50. This genealogy is similar in form to the genealogies given in 1Ch 6:20-30<\/span>, and has therefore most probably been derived from the same source as this, and has been drawn in here to form a transition to the enumeration of the cities of the Levites; for it begins in 1Ch 6:44<\/span> with the dwelling-places of the sons of Aaron, and the … of 1Ch 6:44<\/span> corresponds to the of 1Ch 6:49<\/span>. The order of the names coincides exactly with that of the longer register in 1 Chr 5:30-34.<\/p>\n (50-53) If the chronicler, and not his source, be held responsible for this repetition of the Aaronite line, we may regard it as an instance of his inartificial method of making a new start. He is about to pass from the Levitical genealogies to their cities and domains, and he first partially recapitulates the line of Aarons sons, because their seats are to be described first. (Comp. 1Ch. 6:1-2<\/span> with 16, 18.) He stops at Ahimaaz, who lived in the age of David and Solomon, because, apparently, the preceding section was mainly concerned with the Levites of that epoch.<\/p>\n these.
