Verse 9<\/span>. He begat of Hodesh his wife<\/B><\/I>] In the preceding verse it is said that Hushim and Baara<\/I> were his wives<\/I>; and here it is said he begat of Hodesh his wife, c<\/I>. And then his children by Hushim<\/I> are mentioned, but not a word of Baara<\/I>! It is likely therefore that Hodesh<\/I> was another name for Baara<\/I>, and this is asserted by the Targum: And he begot of Baara, that is Chodesh, his wife<\/I> so called because he espoused her anew<\/I>. It is supposed that he had put her away before, and now remarried her.<\/P> <\/p>\n Ver. 9,10. And he begat of Hodesh his wife<\/strong>,…. That is, he, I say, begat, namely, Shaharaim; the Targum makes this Hodesh to be the same with Baara, called so because she was newly espoused; but wrongly: the sons begotten of her were the seven following;<\/p>\n Jobab, Zibia, Mesha, Malcham, Jeuz, Shachia, and Mirma. These were his sons<\/strong>; the sons of Shaharaim by his wife Hodesh:<\/p>\n heads of the fathers<\/strong>; of the houses or families of their father.<\/p>\n (9) Hodesh his wife.<\/strong>The new Moabite wife or settlement of Shaharaim. The names of two of the sons begotten in Moab have a Moabite castviz., Mesha,<\/em> comp. Mesha king of Moab, 2Ki. 3:4<\/span>; and Malcham,<\/em> comp.
