Not called so from the city of Shiloh, which was in Ephraim; whereas these here intended were of the tribe of Judah, and were either the descendants of a man whose name was Shiloni, <span class='bible'>Ne 11:5<\/span> or rather these are the same with the Shelanites, <span class='bible'>Nu 26:20<\/span> so called from Shelah the son of Judah; and so the Targum here is,<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;and of the tribe of Shelah:&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Asaiah the firstborn, and his sons<\/strong>; the same with Maaseiah, <span class='bible'>Ne 11:5<\/span>.<\/p>\n<h4 align='right'><i><b>Fuente: John Gill&#8217;s Exposition of the Entire Bible<\/b><\/i><\/h4>\n<p>(5) <strong>And of the Shilonites.<\/strong>Shilonite means man of Shiloh, the ancient capital of Ephraim; whereas <span class='bible'>1Ch. 9:4-6<\/span> have to do with Judah. The three sons of Judah, after whom three great sub-tribal divisions were named, were Pharez, Shelah, and Zarah (<span class='bible'>Genesis 38<\/span>). The clan of Shelah was called the Shelanite (<span class='bible'>Num. 26:20<\/span>), and that is doubtless the correct reading here (see <span class='bible'>1Ch. 2:3<\/span>; <span class='bible'>1Ch. 4:21<\/span>), supported as it is by the LXX.
