The destruction of the king and his sons would make their triumph complete.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The sons of Saul.<\/strong>Omit <em>the.<\/em> Eshbaal, Sauls fourth son, was not in the battle (<span class='bible'>2Sa. 2:8<\/span>. Comp. <span class='bible'>1Ch. 8:33<\/span>). Like Zedekiah, the last king of Judah, Saul may have witnessed the death of his sons (<span class='bible'>2Ki. 25:7<\/span>). Jonathan, at least, would not be far from him in the last struggle.
