The encounter ofBenaiah with this gigantic Egyptian reminds us, in some respects, ofDavid&#8217;s combat with Goliath. The chronicler says why.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Like a weavers beam.<\/strong>Not in Samuel. Perhaps due to a recollection of the combat of David and Goliath. (Comp. also <span class='bible'>2Sa. 21:19<\/span>.) Yet the LXX. of <span class='bible'>2Sa. 23:21<\/span> has like the beam of a ships ladder ( )<em>;<\/em> and this may be original.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Went down.<\/strong>To the combat. (Comp. Latin: <em>descendere in aciem,<\/em> &amp;c.)
