In the behalf of the patriarchs God had often especially interfered: in behalf of <I>Abraham<\/I>, <span class='bible'>Ge 12:17<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Ge 20:3<\/span>; and of <I>Jacob<\/I>, <span class='bible'>Ge 31:24<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Ge 34:26<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Ge 35:5<\/span>. But the title may be applied to all the Jewish people, who <I>were<\/I> the <I>anointed<\/I>, as they were the <I>elect<\/I> and peculiar people of God. (See <span class='bible'>Genesis 12, 20<\/span>, 26 for the passages of patriarchal history to which allusion is here made.)<\/p>\n<p>We have now reached the first seam in this composite ode. <span class='bible'>Psalms 105<\/span> naturally continues its historic proof of Jehovahs faithfulness, by reference to the sojourn in Egypt, the Exodus, the wanderings, and the occupation of Canaan. Here, however, this train of thought is abruptly broken off, and a fresh start made in <span class='bible'>1Ch. 16:23<\/span> with <span class='bible'>Psalms 96<\/span>.
