The singular   , after the preceding plural, is most simply explained by taking it to be in apposition to the  at the beginning of the verse, by repeating  mentally before  . &#8211; In <span class='bible'>1Ch 26:9<\/span> the number of Meshelemiah&#8217;s sons and brothers is brought in in a supplementary way.<\/p>\n<h4 align='right'><i><b>Fuente: Keil &amp; Delitzsch Commentary on the Old Testament<\/b><\/i><\/h4>\n<p>(8) <strong>Able men.<\/strong><em>Were men of power;<\/em> in the original, a singular collective.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For strength.<\/strong>Literally, <em>In the strength, i.e.,<\/em> ability.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Were threescore and two<\/strong> <strong>. . .<\/strong>A distinct sentence: <em>There were sixty and two<\/em> (belonging) <em>to Obed-edom.<\/em> Perhaps the word <em>kol,<\/em> every, has fallen out before <em>ish hayil<\/em> (comp. <span class='bible'>1Ch. 10:12<\/span>, where the same phrase occurred).
