Solomon had made a brazenscaffold<\/B>a sort of platform. But the <I>Hebrew<\/I> termrendered &#8220;scaffold,&#8221; being the same as that used todesignate the basin, suggests the idea that this throne might bearsome resemblance, in form or structure, to those lavers in thetemple, being a sort of round and elevated pulpit, placed in themiddle of the court, and in front of the altar of burnt offering. <\/P><P>       <B>upon it he stood, and kneeleddown upon his knees<\/B>After ascending the brazen scaffold, heassumed those two attitudes in succession, and with different objectsin view. He stood while he addressed and blessed the surroundingmultitude (<span class='bible'>2Ch 6:3-11<\/span>).Afterwards he knelt down and stretched out his hands towards heaven,with his face probably turned towards the altar, while he gaveutterance to the beautiful and impressive prayer which is recorded inthe remainder of this chapter. It is deserving of notice that therewas no seat in this pulpitfor the king either stood or knelt allthe time he was in it. But it may once have followed <span class='bible'>1Ki. 8:22<\/span>. At least, marks of the chroniclers individual style are not apparent in it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scaffold.<\/strong>Literally, <em>pan<\/em> (<em>kyr<\/em>; see <span class='bible'>2Ch. 4:6<\/span>). The scaffold looked like a laver turned upside down, and was doubtless hollow underneath. (Comp. <span class='bible'>Neh. 9:4<\/span> for an analogous structure.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kneeled down upon his knees, and spread forth his hands.<\/strong>An attitude of prayer which may be seen figured upon the monuments of ancient Egypt.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Toward heaven<\/strong> (<em>ha-shm<\/em><em>ym<\/em><em>h<\/em>)<em>.<\/em>The chronicler has used the exact form for the less precise <em>hashm<\/em><em>ayim<\/em> of <span class='bible'>1Ki. 8:22<\/span>.<\/p>\n<h4 align='right'><i><b>Fuente: Ellicott&#8217;s Commentary for English Readers (Old and New Testaments)<\/b><\/i><\/h4>\n<p>had made.
