This tower defended both Zion and Moriah against attacks from the south-east. (<span class='bible'>Neh. 3:19-20<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Neh. 3:24-25<\/span>.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>And fortified them.<\/strong>Literally, <em>made them<\/em> (the gates) <em>strong.<\/em> Or rather, perhaps, <em>he made the towers strong, i.e.,<\/em> put them in a posture of defence. (Comp. <span class='bible'>2Ch. 11:11<\/span>.) The margin is wrong.
