As High-priest he appears probably on two occasions <span class='bible'>Jos 22:13<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Jos 22:30<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Jos 22:32<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Jdg 20:28<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><em> Aaron the chief priest<\/em> ] Literally the &lsquo;head-priest&rsquo; (hak-kohen harsh). By this title the High-priest was sometimes designated in writings of the Captivity and post-Captivity periods, e.g. <span class='bible'>2Ch 19:11<\/span>; 2Ch 24:11 ; <span class='bible'>2Ch 26:20<\/span>; <span class='bible'>2Ch 31:10<\/span>. The earliest instances are <span class='bible'>2Ki 25:18<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Jer 52:24<\/span>. Before the period of the Captivity he is generally called &ldquo;the priest&rdquo;. The name High-priest (literally &lsquo;the great priest&rsquo;) only rarely occurs in the Pentateuch, <span class='bible'>Lev 21:10<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Num 35:25<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Num 35:28<\/span>, though more frequently in books of late date, e.g. <span class='bible'>2Ki 12:10<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p> LXX. &lsquo;the first priest&rsquo; (     ).
