Literally, ‘the men of the Ciccar,’ LXX. , Vulg. ‘de campestribus Jordanis.’<\/p>\n Some have explained the term to refer to the neighbourhood of Jerusalem according to its use in Neh 12:28<\/span> ‘the Plain (or Circuit) round about Jerusalem.’ Others have explained its use in this passage by its technical application to the Jordan plain, Gen 13:10<\/span>; Gen 19:17 ; 2Sa 18:23<\/span>. As in Neh 12:28<\/span> the reference to Jerusalem is carefully expressed, the absolute use of the word here may be thought to favour the latter signification. If so, the priests mentioned came from Jericho and the other cities of ‘the Plain,’ , Mat 3:5<\/span>.<\/p>\n Verse 22. See rem. on Neh 12:28<\/span> and on Gen 13:10<\/span>. Hence this verse informs us that priests were then dwelling in the valley of the Jordan, probably in the neighbourhood of Jericho. This could refer to ‘the circle of the Jordan’ compare Gen 13:10<\/span>; but see Neh 12:28<\/span>).
