Literally, &lsquo;the men of the Ciccar,&rsquo; LXX.  , Vulg. &lsquo;de campestribus Jordanis.&rsquo;<\/p>\n<p> Some have explained the term to refer to the neighbourhood of Jerusalem according to its use in <span class='bible'>Neh 12:28<\/span> &lsquo;the Plain (or Circuit) round about Jerusalem.&rsquo; Others have explained its use in this passage by its technical application to the Jordan plain, <span class='bible'>Gen 13:10<\/span>; Gen 19:17 ; <span class='bible'>2Sa 18:23<\/span>. As in <span class='bible'>Neh 12:28<\/span> the reference to Jerusalem is carefully expressed, the absolute use of the word here may be thought to favour the latter signification. See rem. on <span class='bible'>Neh 12:28<\/span> and on <span class='bible'>Gen 13:10<\/span>. Hence this verse informs us that priests were then dwelling in the valley of the Jordan, probably in the neighbourhood of Jericho. This could refer to &lsquo;the circle of the Jordan&rsquo; compare <span class='bible'>Gen 13:10<\/span>; but see <span class='bible'>Neh 12:28<\/span>).
