Contrast <span class='bible'>Neh 3:4<\/span> c where Zadok the son of Baana had been involved. Being a &lsquo;son of Immer&rsquo; may indicate his priestly descent.<\/p>\n<p> Immer was the name of one of priestly courses in the time of David (<span class='bible'>1Ch 24:14<\/span> compare <span class='bible'>Neh 7:40<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Ezr 2:37<\/span>). &lsquo;Sons of Immer&rsquo; had married idolatrous foreign wives (<span class='bible'>Ezr 10:20<\/span>). In all these cases priestly descent was involved.<\/p>\n<p> <span class='bible'><strong> Neh 3:29<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style='margin-left:1.8em'>&lsquo;And after him repaired Shemaiah the son of Shecaniah, the keeper of the east gate.&rsquo;<\/p>\n<p> The next section was repaired by &lsquo;Shemaiah the son of Shecaniah, the keeper of the east gate.&rsquo; This was probably the east gate in the Temple, indicating that Shemaiah was a prominent Levite and a temple gate-keeper.
