22<\/strong>. be glorified<\/em> ] Or, get me glory<\/em> (honour). So for “be sanctified” get me sanctifying, or shew myself holy. To get sanctifying for himself is to get recognition as God alone, and that which God alone is. To “get glory” is a part of to get sanctifying.<\/p>\n Be glorified … be sanctified – <\/B>Or, get Me glory … have shown Myself holy (and in Eze 28:25<\/span>).<\/P><\/p>\n Verse 22<\/span>. I<\/B><\/I> am <\/B>against thee, O Zidon<\/B><\/I>] Sidon for a long time had possessed the empire of the sea and of all Phoenicia, and Tyre was one of its colonies; but in process of time, the daughter became greater than the mother. It seems to have been an independent place at the time in which Tyre was taken; but it is likely that it was taken by the Chaldeans soon after the former.<\/P> <\/p>\n To these heathen, yet neighbours of the Jews. the prophet might well suppose the name and greatness of the God of Israel was so known, as to command their attention when he speaketh. <\/P> I am against thee; <\/B>provoked by thy sins, I am an adversary to thee, and as such determined to proceed with thee. <\/P> Zidon; <\/B>a city in the north-west from Canaan, at the foot of Mount Libanus; a kings seat of old, and from which Tyre descended, as a swarm cast out of that hive, Isa 23:2<\/span>; for it was a great city in Joshuas time, Jos 11:8<\/span>; 19:28<\/span>, and built by Sidon, Canaans son, Gen 10:15<\/span>; 1Ch 1:13<\/span>; a famous mart full of merchants, like Tyre, and as full of sin as riches. <\/P> I will be glorified; <\/B>when my judgments make my justice, power, holiness, sovereignty, and truth appear, both you Sidonians, and others about, shall confess my glory, and ascribe honour to me. I will vindicate my honour and glory, which by thy sins thou hast eclipsed, and I by judgments will illustrate, as Exo 14:4<\/span>,17<\/span>. <\/P> They<\/B> that dwell in thee, and round about thee, all that are concerned for thee, shall know that I am the Lord: see Eze 6:10<\/span>. <\/P> When I shall have executed judgments in her; <\/B>so late do sinners come to any due sense of Gods power, justice, and majesty. The hardened sinners learn not by any other way but this, and by this too in the rigours and repeated executions of it. <\/P> Sanctified; <\/B>owned as holy, reverenced as just, obeyed as sovereign, and submitted to as wise, and mighty, and a hater of violence. <\/P> <\/p>\n 22. shall be sanctified in her<\/B>whenall nations shall see that I am the Holy Judge in the vengeance thatI will inflict on her for sin.<\/P><\/p>\n Ver. 22 And say, thus saith the Lord God<\/strong>,…. The eternal Jehovah, the only true God, the Maker of heaven and earth; this is said by way of preface to the prophecy, and to assure of the fulfilment of it, as well as in opposition to the gods of the Zidonians:<\/p>\n behold, I am against thee, O Zidon<\/strong>; angry with thee, and will come out against thee in my wrath, because of thine idolatries and impieties. The Targum is,<\/p>\n “behold, I send my fury upon thee, O Zidon:”<\/p>\n I will be glorified in the midst of thee<\/strong>; not by the conversion of them; nor by acts of religious worship truly performed by them: by prayer, confession of sin, or thanksgiving; but by his judgments executed in the midst of them; by pouring out the vials of his wrath on them, as it follows:<\/p>\n and they shall know that I am the Lord, when I shall have executed judgments in her<\/strong>; for the Lord is known, by the judgments he executes, to be that pure, holy, just, and sin avenging God he is, as well as omniscient and omnipotent; and this even Heathens and antichristian persons are obliged to acknowledge, Ps 9:15<\/span>:<\/p>\n and shall be sanctified in her<\/strong>; that is, shall appear, be declared and owned, to be a God, just and holy, in all his ways and works.<\/p>\n 22<\/strong>. <\/strong> Be glorified be sanctified <\/strong> Jehovah is glorified and sanctified when his divine power and holiness are acknowledged by a righteous nation or manifested in a nation’s destruction because of its sins (Eze 38:16<\/span>; Eze 39:13<\/span>).<\/p>\n “And they will know that I am Yahweh when I have executed judgments in her and am sanctified in her. For I will send pestilence into her, and blood in her streets, and the wounded will fall in the midst of her, with the sword at her from every side, and they will know that I am Yahweh.”<\/p>\n Yahweh’s servant Nebuchadnezzar, and his army, will devastate Zidon revealing that Yahweh is different from all gods and fulfils His purposes as the all-powerful One (is ‘sanctified in her’ – compare Eze 38:16<\/span>; Eze 36:23<\/span>). They will suffer pestilence and slaughter, regular accompaniments to warfare, and will perish under the sword. The sword may be that of Yahweh (Eze 21:5<\/span>) or simply represent the swords of Nebuchadnezzar’s army.<\/p>\n Thus will they too realise Who and What Yahweh is, repeated twice at beginning and end for emphasis.<\/p>\n Eze 28:22 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I [am] against thee, O Zidon; and I will be glorified in the midst of thee: and they shall know that I [am] the LORD, when I shall have executed judgments in her, and shall be sanctified in her.<\/p>\n Ver. 22. The primary object of all demonstrations against the city was that they shall know that 1 am fhe Lord. We can realize the need for such a display of power because of the almost universal tendencies toward idolatry in those days.<\/p>\n 28:22 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I [am] against thee, O Zidon; and I will be {l} glorified in the midst of thee: and they shall know that I [am] the LORD, when I shall have executed judgments in her, and shall be sanctified in her.<\/p>\n (l) By executing my judgments against your wickedness.<\/p>\n The Lord announced His antagonism against Sidon and His plan to receive glory through the way He would deal with this town. The people would know that Yahweh was the only true God when He judged Sidon and thus manifested His holiness. Klein believed this verse states the theological key to the oracles against foreign nations, namely, Yahweh would vindicate His holiness and glorify His name when He judged the nations.
