David distributed the priestly offices between the families of Zadok, the representative of Eleazar, and Ahimelech, the representative of Ithamar <span class='bible'>1Ch 24:3<\/span>. From the time of Solomon not only the high priesthood, but the priesthood itself, so far as concerned its service, that of offering upon the two altars, seems to have been confined to the descendants of Zadok (see <span class='bible'>1Ch 6:49-53<\/span>). Perhaps the other offices, such as those mentioned in <span class='bible'>Eze 40:45<\/span>, were performed by the descendants of Abiathar and Ithamar. Compare <span class='bible'>1Sa 2:36<\/span>, and below, <span class='bible'>Eze 43:19<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Eze 44:15<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Eze 48:11<\/span>. The row of chambers on the side of the east gate; that side of it that was towards the north, and which the chambers in it faced:<\/p>\n<p><strong>is for the priests, the keepers of the charge of the altar<\/strong>; the ministers of the Gospel, that take care of the altar, of public worship; that preach the Gospel, and administer ordinances; and who are to be taken care of themselves, and live of the Gospel, and have everything provided for them that is necessary, <span class='bible'>1Co 9:13<\/span>:<\/p>\n<p><strong>these are the sons of Zadok, among the sons of Levi<\/strong>; these Levites, or priests, were of the family of Zadok; who descended from Aaron, and was the eldest house of Aaron, to whom the priesthood belonged; though it had been usurped a long time by the family of Ithamar; but, in Solomon&#8217;s time, Abiathar, of that family, was dispossessed of it, and Zadok was placed in his stead, whose name signifies &#8220;just&#8221;, or righteous; and was a type of Christ, the holy and just One, whose spiritual children and offspring are here meant:<\/p>\n<p><strong>which come near to the Lord to minister unto him<\/strong>; both preachers and people, who have near access to God through Christ, and minister before him in holy things, in praying, preaching, administering ordinances, and attending on the same.<\/p>\n<h4 align='right'><i><b>Fuente: John Gill&#8217;s Exposition of the Entire Bible<\/b><\/i><\/h4>\n<p><strong><em><span class='bible'>Eze 40:46<\/span><\/em><\/strong><strong>. <\/strong><strong><em>These are the sons of Zadok<\/em><\/strong><strong><\/strong> The high priest-hood belonged to the eldest sons of the house of Aaron; so that the office originally appertained to the family of Zadok; though that of Ithamar exercised it for some time; from <em>Eli, <\/em>who was high-priest in the time of Samuel, to <em>Abiathar, <\/em>whom Solomon dispossessed, and restored the high priesthood to the former line by placing Zadok in his room. The family of Zadok alone is mentioned in this vision, probably because they continued attached to the worship of the true God, when the priests of Ithamar&#8217;s line forsook it, and fell into idolatry.
