The verses are P&rsquo;s parallel to the narrative of JE in ch. 19.<\/p>\n<p><strong> 15b.<\/strong> The sequel in P to <span class='bible'>Exo 19:1-2<\/span> a.<\/p>\n<p><em> the cloud<\/em> ] the one which in P regularly enshrouds the &lsquo;glory&rsquo; of Jehovah (cf. on the tabernacle, <span class='bible'>Exo 40:34<\/span> f.; and the note on <span class='bible'>Exo 13:21-22<\/span>, at the end). Here it covers the mount, immediately upon Israel&rsquo;s arrival at Sinai: contrast <span class='bible'>Exo 19:16<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong> 16<\/strong>. <em> the glory of<\/em> <strong> Jehovah<\/strong> ] see on <span class='bible'>Exo 16:10<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><em> abode<\/em> ] or <em> dwelt<\/em>: a word often used in P of Jehovah, the cloud, or the glory. Cf. <span class='bible'>Exo 25:8<\/span>, <span class='bible'>Exo 29:45-46<\/span>, <span class='bible'>Exo 40:35<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Num 5:3<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Num 9:17-18<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Num 9:22<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Num 10:12<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Num 35:34<\/span>; and on <span class='bible'>Exo 25:8-9<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong> 17<\/strong>. The brilliance of the &lsquo;glory&rsquo; broke through the cloud in which it was enveloped, and became visible to the people.<\/p>\n<p><em> devouring fire<\/em> ] i.e. blazing fire.
