The cure was now complete, the childs own activity appearing. Mark alone tells of the successive steps. This mode of healing would serve to strengthen the fathers faith, and by showing the difficulty of the case, make the more powerful impression on the multitude, before whom the failure of the disciples and the debate with the scribes had occurred. The effect of the miracle is described by Luke (Luk 9:43).
