But Jesus took him by the hand<\/strong>,…. “Took hold of the hand of the child”, as the Persic version renders it;<\/p>\n and lifted him up<\/strong>; from the ground, on which he was cast by the spirit;<\/p>\n and he arose<\/strong>: this is omitted in the Syriac and Arabic versions, though in one edition of the latter, according to De Dieu, it is rendered, “and he stood”; to which is added, “and went into his own house”. This mode of healing would serve to strengthen the fathers faith, and by showing the difficulty of the case, make the more powerful impression on the multitude, before whom the failure of the disciples and the debate with the scribes had occurred. The effect of the miracle is described by Luke (Luk 9:43).
