The Ethiopic version reads, who walked there; who were either standing hard by, or walking about the place, being inhabitants of it; and either the owners of the colt, or their servants, or both:<\/p>\n said unto them, what do ye loosing the colt<\/strong>? What do ye mean by it? do you intend to take the colt away? what business have you with it? what right have you to do so? and what is your end in it?<\/p>\n Certain of those that stood there <\/B> ( <\/SPAN><\/span>). Perfect active participle, genitive plural. Bystanders. Lu 19:33<\/span> terms them “the owners thereof” ( <\/SPAN><\/span>). The lords or masters of the colt. They make a natural protest. <\/P> <\/p>\n <\/strong><\/p>\n 1) “And certain of them that stood there said unto them<\/strong>,” (kai tines ton ekei hestekoton elegon autois) “And some of those who were standing there asked them,” inquired of them, as the Lord anticipated, prepared the two disciples for an adequate reply, Mar 11:3<\/span>.<\/p>\n 2) “What do ye, loosing the colt?”<\/strong> (ti poiete luonets ton polon) “What are you (two) doing loosing the colt?” The people of the place challenged the action of the two disciples, as also recounted by Matthew, as a possibility, Mat 21:3<\/span>.<\/p>\n (5) And certain of them that stood there.<\/strong>This again, though perhaps implied in our Lords words, is not reported by St. Matthew.<\/p>\n 5 And certain of them that stood there said unto them, What do ye, loosing the colt? <\/p>\n<\/p>\n <\/strong><\/p>\n Ver. 5. Mk. tells the story very circumstantially: how the people of the place challenged their action; how they repeated the message of Jesus; and the satisfactory result. Mt. (Mat 21:6<\/span> ) is much more summary.<\/p>\n What do ye. ? = What are you doing? <\/p>\n 5<\/p>\n The inquiry was made of them that Jesus had anticipated. It was quite natural to ask for an explanation when others besides the owners were taking possession of this untrained colt.<\/p>\n Mar 11:5. And certain of them that stood there. It was done openly.
