It was not a question to be discussed. The name had been given already.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And they marvelled all.<\/strong>This confirms the view given above as to the previous deafness of Zacharias. There would have been no ground for wonder, had he heard the discussion. The writing was done with an iron stylus or bodkin, sharp at one end, and broad and smooth at the other, so that the opposite ends could be used for <em> writing <\/em> and <\/p>\n<p><em> erasing. His name is John<\/em> <em> <\/em> Not his name <em> shall <\/em> be <em> called <\/em> John; for Zacharias recognizes that the angel of God had already named him. Note his emphasis on the fact that it &lsquo;is his name&rsquo;. The name had already been decided on, and was already being applied. There was to be no argument about it. (It would appear as if he could tell what they were saying).<\/p>\n<p> This would serve to confirm that the baby had been named at birth and that the name had been given prior to the day of circumcision.
