Here, again, the Gospel is true to the letter in its picture of a Pharisaic Rabbi. Thus the Talmud describes one of the classes of Pharisees as the tell-me-something-more-to-do-and-I-will-do-it Pharisee; and when R. Chaninah was dying he said to the Angel of Death, “Go and fetch me the Book of the Law, and see whether there is anything in it which I have not kept.”

Fuente: The Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges

21. Doubtless hewas perfectly sincere but something within whispered to him that hiskeeping of the commandments was too easy a way of getting toheaven. He felt something beyond this to be necessary; after keepingall the commandments he was at a loss to know what that could be; andhe came to Jesus just upon that point. “Then,” says Mark(Mr 10:21), “Jesusbeholding him loved him,” or “looked lovingly upon him.”His sincerity, frankness, and nearness to the kingdom of God, inthemselves most winning qualities, won our Lord’s regard even thoughhe turned his back upon Hima lesson to those who can see nothinglovable save in the regenerate.

Fuente: Jamieson, Fausset and Brown’s Commentary Critical and Explanatory on the Whole Bible

And he said,…. It is really a polite reply saying, ‘well I know that, but it is not enough’. He is saying by this that he is looking for something more. And by it he is confirming that he really has sought to please God and follow His commandments, but that he is still aware of something missing. He would certainly have felt that up to now he had learned nothing worthwhile from Jesus, but he was also probably expecting the prophet to go deeper.
