They probably thought that he was begging for alms. But he would not be silenced, and he continued to &lsquo;cry out the more a great deal&rsquo;, &ldquo;You son of David, have mercy on me.&rdquo; Here was one who was persistently seeking to press into the Kingly Rule of God (<span class='bible'>Luk 16:16<\/span>) where blind eyes were opened (<span class='bible'>Luk 4:18<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Luk 7:21<\/span>).<\/p>\n<p> The word for &lsquo;cried out&rsquo; here is much stronger than in the previous verse. He has now become desperate. He is fearful of missing this vital opportunity. He might never have the chance again. Jesus&rsquo; second appearance before Pilate 23:13-25 (cf. Matthew 27:15-26; Mark 15:6-15; John 18:39-19:16)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The overall impression that Luke presented with this part of his narrative is that Jesus&rsquo; condemnation was a terrible travesty of justice. Pilate condemned an innocent man. This decision comes across as especially heinous since he also acquitted a guilty man.
