In order to bring it away, as Christ bid them:<\/p>\n<p><strong>the owners thereof said unto them, why loose ye the colt<\/strong>? Mark takes notice of this, but does not tell us who they were, only that they were persons that stood there; but this evangelist informs us who they were: and it seems by this, that there were more owners of the colt than one, which might have made the taking away of the colt the more difficult; since, though one might agree to it, another might not; but Christ, who is God, and has the hearts of all men in his hands, could, as he did, dispose the minds of these men to let the colt go freely, and quietly, with his disciples;<\/p>\n<p> <span class='bible'>[See comments on Mr 11:5]<\/span>.<\/p>\n<h4 align='right'><i><b>Fuente: John Gill&#8217;s Exposition of the Entire Bible<\/b><\/i><\/h4>\n<p><P> <B>As they were loosing <\/B> (<span class='_800000'><SPAN LANG=\"el-GR\"> <\/SPAN><\/span>). The same word <span class='_800000'><SPAN LANG=\"el-GR\"><\/SPAN><\/span> used of the Lord Jesus in verse <span class='bible'>31<\/span> (and <span class='bible'>34<\/span>) and which these &#8220;owners&#8221; would understand. See on <span class='bible'>Matt 21:3<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mark 11:3<\/span> for <span class='_800000'><SPAN LANG=\"el-GR\"><\/SPAN><\/span> used by Jesus about himself with the expectation that these disciples would recognize him by that title as they did. The owners were just really &#8220;stewards&#8221; who had some of God&#8217;s property in their trust that His Son needed at this time, Ps 241; <span class='bible'>1Co 10:26<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>3) <strong>&#8220;Why loose ye the colt?&#8221; <\/strong>(ti luete ton polon) &#8220;Just why are you all loosening the colt?&#8221; It was a normal question for an owner or trustee or steward who saw property in his care being taken.<\/p>\n<h4 align='right'><i><b>Fuente: Garner-Howes Baptist Commentary<\/b><\/i><\/h4>\n<p>(33) <strong>The owners thereof.<\/strong><strong>In<\/strong> this instance St. Luke, though less graphic in his narrative generally, is more specific than St. Mark, who represents the question as coming from some of those that stood by. The use of the same Greek word for owner and for the Lord affords a striking example of the elasticity of its range of meaning.<\/p>\n<h4 align='right'><i><b>Fuente: Ellicott&#8217;s Commentary for English Readers (Old and New Testaments)<\/b><\/i><\/h4>\n<p> &lsquo;And as they were loosing the colt, its owners said to them, &ldquo;Why do you loose the colt?&rdquo; And they said, &ldquo;The Lord has need of him&rdquo;.&rsquo;<\/p>\n<p> Luke then tells us that the arrangements worked smoothly and were followed word for word. &lsquo;Its owners.&rsquo; This may possibly confirm that the ass was available for hiring out (along with other asses) so that the business was jointly owned.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The Lord has need of him.&rdquo; This has been repeated twice for emphasis, underlying the importance that Luke sees in it. If the people here spoken of, were not, as they possibly might be, the acquaintances of Christ, they might easily meet with him at Jerusalem, if they had a mind to inquire after the ass and colt.
