Literally, &#8220;they themselves also by speech announcing the same things.&#8221; The present participle, as here, sometimes is used like the future to express purpose as in <span class='bible'>3:26<\/span> <span class='_800000'><SPAN LANG=\"el-GR\"><\/SPAN><\/span> after <span class='_800000'><SPAN LANG=\"el-GR\"><\/SPAN><\/span> and so here <span class='_800000'><SPAN LANG=\"el-GR\"><\/SPAN><\/span> after <span class='_800000'><SPAN LANG=\"el-GR\"><\/SPAN><\/span> (Robertson, <I>Grammar<\/I>, p. 1128). The main purpose of sending Judas and Silas was to confirm the letter by their oral testimony. These two well-known men, held in high honour by the Church, were to testify to the genuineness of the letter; by this means the Antioch Christians would have oral as well as written testimony.
