Ver.<\/em> Paul had spoken, and others would speak, against the worship, nobody could gainsay the facts, they were incontrovertible.<\/p>\n<p><em> ye ought to be quiet<\/em> ] The verb is the same as is used in <span class='bible'>Act 19:35<\/span>, of his own quieting the people, which is another reason why the rendering there should be changed.<\/p>\n<p><em> and to do nothing rashly<\/em> ] The last word is better taken as an adjective, &ldquo;rash.&rdquo; The word describes the headstrong, outrageous uproar for which there was no reason, and from which no good could come, and also their conduct in seizing two persons who were not the offenders and against whom, as it appears, they could take no proceedings.<\/p>\n<h4 align='right'><i><b>Fuente: The Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges<\/b><\/i><\/h4>\n<p><P STYLE=\"text-indent: 0.75em\"><B>Seeing then &#8230; &#8211; <\/B>Since no one can call in question the zeal of the Ephesians on this subject, or doubt the sincerity of their belief, and since there can be no danger that this well-established worship is to be destroyed by the efforts of a few evil-disposed Jews, there is no occasion for this tumult.<\/P> <P STYLE=\"text-indent: 0.75em\"><B>Be quiet &#8211; <\/B>Be appeased. There is no occasion for tumult and riot. For they indeed were against all images that were made with hands; but theirs was not such a one, it being fallen down from heaven. Occasionally in late Greek (Polybius, etc.), only here in N.T., but adverb <span class='_800000'><SPAN LANG=\"el-GR\"><\/SPAN><\/span> in <span class='bible'>Ac 10:29<\/span>. These legends were accepted as true and appeased the mob.<\/P> <P><B>Ye ought <\/B> (<span class='_800000'><SPAN LANG=\"el-GR\"> <\/SPAN><\/span>). It is necessary. Periphrastic present indicative instead of <span class='_800000'><SPAN LANG=\"el-GR\"><\/SPAN><\/span> like <span class='bible'>1Pet 1:6<\/span>; <span class='bible'>1Tim 5:13<\/span>.<\/P> <P><B>Be quiet <\/B> (<span class='_800000'><SPAN LANG=\"el-GR\"><\/SPAN><\/span>). Perfect passive participle of <span class='_800000'><SPAN LANG=\"el-GR\"><\/SPAN><\/span> (see verse <span class='bible'>35<\/span>).<\/P> <P><B>Rash <\/B> (<span class='_800000'><SPAN LANG=\"el-GR\"><\/SPAN><\/span>). Old adjective from <span class='_800000'><SPAN LANG=\"el-GR\"><\/SPAN><\/span> and <span class='_800000'><SPAN LANG=\"el-GR\"><\/SPAN><\/span>, to fall forward, headlong, precipitate. In the N.T. only here and <span class='bible'>2Ti 3:4<\/span>, though common in the <I>Koine<\/I>. Such language has often been heard from the defenders of institutions which were almost on the verge of ruin.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ye ought to be quiet.<\/strong>The verb is the same as that of the transitive appeased in <span class='bible'>Act. 19:35<\/span>.
