16<\/strong>. This is the covenant<\/em> ] Jer 31:33-34<\/span> (comp. Heb 8:10-12<\/span>).<\/p>\n God promiseth his true Israel his entering with them into a new testamental covenant; after the days that the covenant administration at Sinai was expired, then the Lord saith, Jer 31:33<\/span>, that he will renew minds and hearts by his Spirit, and contorm them to his will, that they shall be living, walking exemplars of his law; of both which see Heb 8:10<\/span>. This work of sanctification of souls is properly inferred here, to prove that such as enjoy it are perfected by Christ, because the promise of holiness is joined with that of perfect righteousness. Formerly it was urged from the text to another purpose, to prove Gods will of changing the Aaronical administration of the covenant, because this was better. Here it is urged to prove the perfect effect of the sacrifice of Christ once offered to God, without which these promises of the covenant of justifying and sanctifying sinners had neither been made nor effected. <\/P> <\/p>\n This is the covenant that I will make with them<\/strong>,….<\/p>\n [See comments on Heb 8:10]<\/span>.<\/p>\n With them <\/B> ( <\/SPAN><\/span>). Today God’s new covenant people in the church, who constitute his church, should seek always to have, hold, and manifest the mind of Christ, Rom 12:1-2<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n (16) I will put my laws.<\/strong>Rather, putting my laws upon their heart, upon their mind also will I write them.<\/em> The first part of the quotation (Heb. 8:8-10<\/span> in part) is omitted, and also some later lines (the last words of Heb. 10:10<\/span> and the whole of Heb. 10:11<\/span> in Hebrews 8<\/span>). In the remainder we notice some variations, which prove that the writer is not aiming at verbal agreement with the original passage, but is quoting the substance only. He will bring home to them the word of God and all He requires. He will work in them to will and to do of His good pleasure (Php 2:13<\/span>). He will create in them a new heart (Psa 51:10<\/span>). He will give them the mind of Christ (1Co 2:16<\/span>).<\/p>\n -17 ‘Then he says, “And their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.” ’<\/p>\n And added to this will be the complete removal of their sinfulness. All their sins and iniquities, their outward failures (‘sins’) and their inward sinfulness (‘iniquities’), will be remembered no more. They will be deliberately obliterated from God’s memory. ‘Remembered no more’ is, of course, hyperbole to express the completeness of God’s forgiveness.
