The name of Joseph is elsewhere appropriated to Ephraim, as Eze 37:16<\/span>,19<\/span>; Re 7:8<\/span>; here to Manasseh; possibly to aggravate the sin of the ruler of this tribe, who did so basely degenerate from his noble ancestor, Joseph. <\/P> <\/p>\n Of the tribe of Joseph, [namely], of the tribe of Manasseh<\/strong>,<\/p>\n Gaddi the son of Susi.<\/strong> [See comments on Nu 13:4]<\/span>.<\/p>\n Num 13:11<\/span><\/em><\/strong>. <\/strong>Of the tribe of Joseph, <\/em><\/strong>&c.<\/strong> That is to say, of that part of the tribe of Joseph whereof Manasseh was the chief. Mention is made of the tribe of Ephraim, the other branch of the tribe of Joseph, in the 8th verse. The name of Joseph was common to each; but Poole is of opinion, that it is given in this particular manner to Manasseh, to shew in the stronger point of view the crime of the chief of this tribe, who conducted himself so unworthily of his great forefather Joseph.
