The Levites, however, were not included in that census (<span class='bible'>Num 1:47<\/span>), and the priestly writer probably assumed that the sentence of death in the wilderness did not apply to them. Aaron&rsquo;s son Eleazar succeeded his father as high priest on the borders of Canaan, and he must certainly have been over 20 years of age at this time, since he acted in a responsible position as priest before the departure from Sinai (see <span class='bible'>Num 3:3<\/span> f., <span class='bible'>32<\/span>, <span class='bible'>Num 4:16<\/span>).<\/p>\n<h4 align='right'><i><b>Fuente: The Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges<\/b><\/i><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness<\/strong>,&#8230;. The original signifies simply <em> corpses <\/em> or <em> dead bodies. <\/em> See <span class='bible'>Gen 15:11<\/span>. <\/p>\n<p><strong> All that were numbered <\/strong> 603,550. See <span class='bible'>Num 1:46<\/span>. Caleb and Joshua only were excepted. Since the women were not numbered, they are not excluded. The tribe of Levi was not included in the general census.
