For, besides Caleb andJoshua, there were alive at this time Eleazar and Ithamar, and in allprobability a considerable number of Levites, who had noparticipation in the popular defections in the wilderness. About thirty eight years before this time: this, as Aben Ezra observes, respects the numbering of the Israelites, not of the Levites; for there were some of the tribe of Levi numbered then who were living, as Eleazar, and very probably Ithamar, and perhaps some few more, though it may be Eleazar, being now a numberer, was not reckoned among the numbered:<\/p>\n<p><strong>when they numbered the children of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai<\/strong>; see <span class='bible'>Nu 1:1<\/span> for as there were none of the tribe of Levi among the spies, there might be but few of them among the murmurers.<\/p>\n<h4 align='right'><i><b>Fuente: John Gill&#8217;s Exposition of the Entire Bible<\/b><\/i><\/h4>\n<p>(64) <strong>But among these . . . <\/strong>Thus the prediction contained in <span class='bible'>Num. 14:29-32<\/span> was fulfilled. The fact that the fulfilment of this prediction is stated after <span class='bible'>Num. 26:62<\/span>, which contains the result of the census as regards the Levites, viewed in connection with the statement contained in <span class='bible'>Num. 26:65<\/span>, might seem to favour the inference that the sentence of exclusion was applicable to the tribe of Levi as well as to the other tribes. On the other hand, the second clause of <span class='bible'>Num. 26:62<\/span> may be alleged in support of the opposite view.
