Heaven is compared sometimes to a bottle, Job 38:37<\/span>, which may be either stopped or opened; sometimes to a great storehouse, wherein God lays up his treasures of rain, Job 38:22<\/span>; Psa 33:7<\/span>, the doors whereof God is said to open<\/I> when he gives rain, and to shut when he withholds it. See 1Ki 8:35<\/span>; 2Ch 6:26<\/span>; 7:13<\/span>. <\/P> <\/p>\n And then the Lord’s wrath be kindled against you<\/strong>,…. For their idolatry, nothing being more provoking to him than that, it being contrary to his nature and being, as well as to his will, and to his honour and glory:<\/p>\n and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain<\/strong>; the treasures and storehouses of it there, or the windows of it, the clouds, which when opened let it down, but when shut withhold it; the key of rain is one of the keys which the Jews say k the Lord keeps in his own hand, and with it he opens and no man shuts, and shuts and no man opens; see<\/p>\n De 28:12<\/span><\/p>\n and that the land yield not her fruit<\/strong>; which is unavoidably the case when rain is withheld:<\/p>\n and lest ye perish quickly from off the good land which the Lord giveth you<\/strong>; for if the land does not yield its fruits sufficient to support the inhabitants of it, they must in course perish.<\/p>\n k Targum Jon. in Deut. xxviii. 12.<\/p>\n Deu 11:17 And [then] the LORD’S wrath be kindled against you, and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and [lest] ye perish quickly from off the good land which the LORD giveth you.<\/p>\n Ver. 17.
