The first of these seems to have its name from an haunt of foxes here, and was given to the tribe of Simeon,<\/p>\n<p> <span class='bible'>Jos 19:3<\/span>; and is mentioned as here with Beersheba, <span class='bible'>1Ch 4:28<\/span><\/p>\n<p> <span class='bible'>Ne 11:27<\/span>;<\/p>\n<p><strong>and Beersheba<\/strong> was a city well known in the extreme border of the land of Canaan southward; hence the phrase &#8220;from Dan to Beersheba&#8221;,<\/p>\n<p> <span class='bible'>Jud 20:1<\/span>, of which Jerom says h, Bersabee, in the tribe of Judah or Simeon, is at this day a large village, twenty miles from Hebron to the south, in which there is a Roman garrison; and from hence the borders of the land of Judea begin, and go on to Dan, which is by Paneas;<\/p>\n<p><strong>and Bizjothjah<\/strong>, of which mention is made elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>h lbid. fol. 89. It afterwards became famous as the southern limit of the Holy Land, in the formula &ldquo;From Dan to Beer-sheba.&rdquo; For the origin of the name and history see at <span class='bible'>Gen 21:31<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Gen 26:33<\/span>. Two deep wells are still found there, and a number of smaller ones.
