{"id":6240,"date":"2022-09-24T01:31:49","date_gmt":"2022-09-24T06:31:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.biblia.work\/bible-commentary\/exegetical-and-hermeneutical-commentary-of-joshua-1529\/"},"modified":"2022-09-24T01:31:49","modified_gmt":"2022-09-24T06:31:49","slug":"exegetical-and-hermeneutical-commentary-of-joshua-1529","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.biblia.work\/bible-commentary\/exegetical-and-hermeneutical-commentary-of-joshua-1529\/","title":{"rendered":"Exegetical and Hermeneutical Commentary of Joshua 15:29"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 align='center'><b><i> Baalah, and Iim, and Azem, <\/i><\/b><\/h3>\n<p> <strong> 29<\/strong>. <em> Baalah<\/em> ] A <em> fourth group<\/em> is added of <em> thirteen places<\/em> which lay to the <em> west<\/em> and <em> south-west: <\/p>\n<p><\/em><\/p>\n<p> (1) <em> Baalah<\/em>, called <em> Balah<\/em> (ch. <span class='bible'>Jos 19:3<\/span>) and <em> Bilhah<\/em> (<span class='bible'>1Ch 4:29<\/span>); (2) <em> Iim<\/em>, unknown; (3) <em> Azem<\/em> = &ldquo;firmness&rdquo; or &ldquo;strength&rdquo; (ch. <span class='bible'>Jos 19:3<\/span>); (4) <em> Eltolad<\/em> = <em> Tolad<\/em> (<span class='bible'>1Ch 4:29<\/span>), unknown; (5) <em> Chesil<\/em> = <em> Bethul<\/em> (<span class='bible'>Jos 19:4<\/span>) = <em> Bethuel<\/em> (<span class='bible'>1Ch 4:30<\/span>); (6) <em> Hormah<\/em>, or <em> Zephath<\/em> (comp. <span class='bible'>Jos 12:14<\/span>); (7) <em> Ziklag<\/em> = &ldquo;wilderness of destruction&rdquo; (Gesenius), which afterwards came into the possession of Achish, king of Gath, who presented it to David (<span class='bible'>1Sa 27:6<\/span>), and was burnt by the Amalekites (<span class='bible'>1Sa 30:1<\/span>); (8) <em> Madmannah<\/em> = possibly to <em> el-Minyy<\/em>, south of Gaza, on the route of the pilgrims during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries; (9) <em> Sansannah<\/em>, unknown; (10) <em> Lebaoth<\/em> = Beth-lebaoth (<span class='bible'>Jos 19:6<\/span>; <span class='bible'>1Ch 4:31<\/span>), perhaps <em> Lebhem<\/em>, eight hours south of Gaza; (11) <em> Shilhim<\/em> = <em> el-Scheriat<\/em>, about midway between Gaza and Beer-sheba; (12) <em> Ain<\/em>; (13) <em> Rimmon<\/em>; in ch. <span class='bible'>Jos 19:7<\/span>, <span class='bible'>1Ch 4:32<\/span>, these are treated as one place, and comp. <span class='bible'>Neh 11:29<\/span>. Baalah was given to the tribe of Simeon,<\/p>\n<p> <span class='bible'>Jos 19:3<\/span>; for Baalah is the same with Balah there, as it is with Bilba, <span class='bible'>1Ch 4:29<\/span>; though according to the Jerusalem Talmud i it is the same with Baalah, given to the tribe of Dan, <span class='bible'>Jos 19:44<\/span>; and was one of those places whose houses were in Judah and their fields in Dan;<\/p>\n<p><strong>and Azem<\/strong> was also given to the tribe of Simeon, <span class='bible'>Jos 19:3<\/span>; it is the same with Ezem, <span class='bible'>1Ch 4:29<\/span>;<\/p>\n<p><strong>and Iim<\/strong>, of which we read nowhere else.<\/p>\n<p>i Hieros.
