This is the meaning of the text as it stands: but some commentators would alter it slightly in accordance with the Vulgate, and render <em> he<\/em> (David) <em> committed him to the hand of Nathan<\/em>, that he might take charge of his education. But the explanation is doubtful, and there is no further trace of the fact, though it has been very generally supposed that Nathan was Solomon&rsquo;s tutor.<\/p>\n<p><em> Jedidiah<\/em> ] That is <em> Beloved of Jah.<\/em> Cp. <span class='bible'>Deu 33:12<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Psa 127:2<\/span>. It is derived from the same root as David, which means <em> beloved<\/em> or <em> darling<\/em>. This is the first instance I remember of a minister of God being employed to give a name to the child of one of his servants.
