Hence ‘to close up the breach’ has been thought to mean the building a wall across the valley between Zion and Moriah, and so making the ravine between these mountains inclosed within the walls. This valley was known at a later time as the Tyropon. This makes the statement harmonize with 1Ki 9:15<\/span>, where Solomon’s object is said to have been ‘to build the walls of Jerusalem.’<\/p>\n Millo was probably fortified in Solomons twenty-fourth or twenty-fifth year.<\/P><\/p>\n And this was the cause that he lifted up his hand against the king<\/strong>,…. The occasion of it, his being advanced to some posts under Solomon, which elated him, and what passed between him and the prophet Ahijah, after related:<\/p>\n Solomon built Millo, and repaired the breaches of the city of David his father<\/strong>: in the oversight of which, it is supposed by the Jews, he employed this man, who reproached him for doing these works; building an house in Millo for Pharaoh’s daughter, and stopping up the passage to the city of David, and the people’s access thither upon occasion.<\/p>\n (27) Solomon built Millo.<\/strong>See 1Ki. 9:15<\/span>; 1Ki. 9:24<\/span>. The charge <\/strong> or burden <\/em> of this tribe here means the labour they were required to perform in building Millo and repairing the walls of the city. This tribe was of course called on for its quota of men in the levy which Solomon raised, ( 1Ki 5:13 ; 1Ki 9:15<\/span>,) and Jeroboam was at first among the labourers perhaps an under officer; but at length, on account of his marked ability, was made overseer of all the workmen of his tribe.<\/p>\n (27) And this was the cause that he lifted up his hand against the king: Solomon built Millo, and repaired the breaches of the city of David his father. (28) And the man Jeroboam was a mighty man of valour: and Solomon seeing the young man that he was industrious, he made him ruler over all the charge of the house of Joseph.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Those particulars concerning Jeroboam are here spoken of, as the cause, according to the mind of the man, for which he became Solomon’s enemy; but we know that the thing was of the Lord.<\/p>\n 1Ki 11:27 And this [was] the cause that he lifted up [his] hand against the king: Solomon built Millo, [and] repaired the breaches of the city of David his father.<\/p>\n Ver. 27.
