Solomon’s idolatry had led away others, and involved the nation in the sin of the king. The LXX. and other versions however have the verb in the singular.

and to keep my statutes ] The verb which in the previous clause is rendered ‘to do’, can in Hebrew be joined with all the nouns that follow (cf. Deu 6:24; Deu 16:12; Deu 17:19; 1Ch 22:13). The English however requires a different verb with ‘statutes.’ Hence ‘to keep’ is inserted in italics, though the Hebrew construction is quite complete.

Fuente: The Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges

They have forsaken me, i.e. the king, and his concubines, and people, who easily followed his example, but were not at all excused by it.

Fuente: English Annotations on the Holy Bible by Matthew Poole

Because that they have forsaken me,…. It was because Solomon and his wives (and/or his people) had forsaken YHWH, and had worshipped foreign gods in Jerusalem, the city which had been set apart for YHWH by David when he introduced the Ark into it, with the result that YHWH had ‘chosen it’. Furthermore they had also not walked in His ways to do what was right in His eyes and to keep His statutes and ordinances, in the way that David, Solomon’s father had. Thus what was to happen was due to a combination of idolatry and of disobedience to His moral and religious requirements (compare Isa 1:11-18). The language of the second half of the verse is similar to that in 1Ki 3:14 ; 1Ki 9:4, although ‘to do what is right in my eyes’ is new (although see Deu 13:18). As we have seen earlier the ideas are a mixture of Mosaic and Davidic rather than simply Deuteronomic (in whatever sense) ideas. They look back on the whole of Israel’s history. The gods described are those mentioned in 1Ki 11:5; 1Ki 11:7.

Fuente: Commentary Series on the Bible by Peter Pett

1Ki 11:33 Because that they have forsaken me, and have worshipped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the children of Ammon, and have not walked in my ways, to do [that which is] right in mine eyes, and [to keep] my statutes and my judgments, as [did] David his father.

Ver. 33. Because that they have forsaken me. ] Not Solomon only, but the people also by his example; for Magnates sunt magnetes; and in people, as in a beast, the body followeth the head.

Fuente: John Trapp’s Complete Commentary (Old and New Testaments)

Ashtoreth.}

Chemosh.} See notes on verses: 1Ki 11:5 and 1Ki 11:7.

Milcom.}

Fuente: Companion Bible Notes, Appendices and Graphics

they have forsaken: 1Ki 11:9, 1Ki 3:14, 1Ki 6:12, 1Ki 6:13, 1Ki 9:5-7, 1Ch 28:9, 2Ch 15:2, Jer 2:13, Hos 4:17

Ashtoreth: 1Ki 11:5-8

Reciprocal: Exo 15:26 – and wilt Lev 18:21 – to Molech Num 21:29 – General Jdg 2:13 – served Jdg 10:6 – the gods of Zidon 1Sa 7:4 – General 1Ki 14:8 – my servant David 1Ki 15:3 – and his heart 2Ki 1:2 – god 2Ki 21:22 – General 2Ki 23:13 – Ashtoreth 2Ch 21:10 – because Jer 32:35 – which Jer 48:7 – Chemosh Jer 49:3 – their king Eze 11:12 – General Amo 5:26 – the tabernacle of your Moloch Zep 1:5 – Malcham

Fuente: The Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

Because that they have forsaken me, and have worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the children of Ammon, and have not walked in my ways, to do [that which is] right in mine eyes, and [to keep] my statutes and my judgments, as … Continue reading “Exegetical and Hermeneutical Commentary of 1 Kings 11:33”

[1

post-9153","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-commentary
["GET
