It is not used ironically here, nor in <span class='bible'>Gal 2:2<\/span>, <span class='bible'>Gal 2:6<\/span>, <span class='bible'>Gal 2:9<\/span>, &#8220;those who were of repute.&#8221; See REPUTE, SEEM, SUPPOSE, THINK. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> (or-AO) &#8220;to put to a person&#8217;s account,&#8221; <span class='bible'>Phm 1:18<\/span>, is used of sin in <span class='bible'>Rom 5:13<\/span>, &#8220;reckon&#8221; (AV, &#8220;impute&#8221;). See IMPUTE, No. 2. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> primarily signifies &#8220;to lead;&#8221; then, &#8220;to consider;&#8221; it is translated &#8220;accounting&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Heb 11:26<\/span>, RV (AV, &#8220;esteeming&#8221;); <span class='bible'>2Pe 3:15<\/span>, &#8220;account.&#8221; See CHIEF, COUNT, ESTEEM, GOVERNOR, JUDGE, RULE, SUPPOSE THINK. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> primarily signifies &#8220;to reckon,&#8221; whether by calculation or imputation, e.g., <span class='bible'>Gal 3:6<\/span> (RV, &#8220;reckoned&#8221;); then, to deliberate, and so to suppose, &#8220;account,&#8221; <span class='bible'>Rom 8:36<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Rom 14:14<\/span> (AV, &#8220;esteemeth&#8221;); <span class='bible'>Joh 11:50<\/span>; <span class='bible'>1Co 4:1<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Heb 11:19<\/span>; (AV, &#8220;consider&#8221;); <span class='bible'>Act 19:27<\/span> (&#8220;made of no account;&#8221; AV, &#8220;despised&#8221;); <span class='bible'>1Pe 5:12<\/span> (AV, &#8220;suppose&#8221;). It is used of love in <span class='bible'>1Co 13:5<\/span>, as not taking &#8220;account&#8221; of evil, RV (AV, &#8220;thinketh&#8221;). In <span class='bible'>2Co 3:5<\/span> the Apostle uses it in repudiation of idea that he and fellow-servants of God are so self-sufficient as to &#8220;account anything&#8221; (RV) as from themselves (AV, &#8220;think&#8221;), i.e., as to attribute anything to themselves. Cp. <span class='bible'>2Co 12:6<\/span>. In <span class='bible'>2Ti 4:16<\/span> it is used of laying to a person&#8217;s &#8220;account&#8221; (RV) as a charge against him (AV, &#8220;charge&#8221;). <\/p>\n<p> Note: In <span class='bible'>Phi 4:8<\/span> it signifies &#8220;to think upon a matter by way of taking account of its character&#8221; (RV marg.). See CONCLUDE, COUNT, CHARGE, ESTEEM, IMPUTE, NUMBER, REASON, RECKON, SUPPOSE, THINK. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> denotes &#8220;to account worthy&#8221; (kata, &#8220;intensive,&#8221; axios, &#8220;worthy&#8221;), &#8220;to judge worthy,&#8221; <span class='bible'>Luk 20:35<\/span>; some mss. have it in <span class='bible'>Luk 21:36<\/span> (so the AV); the most authentic mss. have the verb katischuo, &#8220;to prevail;&#8221; <span class='bible'>Act 5:41<\/span>, &#8220;were counted worthy;&#8221; so <span class='bible'>2Th 1:5<\/span>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;to make of no account,&#8221; frequently signifies &#8220;to despise.&#8221; In <span class='bible'>1Co 6:4<\/span>, it is used, not in a contemptuous sense, but of gentile judges, before whom the saints are not to go to law with one another, such magistrates having no place, and therefore being &#8220;of no account&#8221; (RV), in the church. The Apostle is not speaking of any believers as &#8220;least esteemed&#8221; (AV). In <span class='bible'>2Co 10:10<\/span>, for AV, &#8220;contemptible,&#8221; the RV suitably has &#8220;of no account.&#8221; See DESPISE. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;a word or saying,&#8221; also means &#8220;an account which one gives by word of mouth&#8221; (cp. No. 4), <span class='bible'>Mat 12:36<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mat 18:23<\/span>, RV, &#8220;reckoning;&#8221; <span class='bible'>Mat 16:2<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Act 19:40<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Act 20:24<\/span> (AV, &#8220;count&#8221;); <span class='bible'>Rom 14:12<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Phi 4:17<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Heb 13:17<\/span>; <span class='bible'>1Pe 4:5<\/span>.
