See LUST. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> lit., &#8220;the bowels,&#8221; which were regarded by the Greeks as the seat of the more violent passions, by the Hebrews as the seat of the tender &#8220;affections;&#8221; hence the word denotes &#8220;tender mercies&#8221; and is rendered &#8220;affections&#8221; in <span class='bible'>2Co 6:12<\/span> (AV, &#8220;bowels&#8221;); &#8220;inward affection,&#8221; <span class='bible'>2Co 7:15<\/span>. Cp. epithumia, &#8220;desire.&#8221; <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> akin to No. 1, translated &#8220;affections&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Gal 5:24<\/span>, AV, is correct to &#8220;passions&#8221; in the RV. No. 3. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> signifies &#8220;without natural affection&#8221; (a, negative, and storge, &#8220;love of kindred,&#8221; especially of parents for children and children for parents; a fanciful etymology associates with this the &#8220;stork&#8221;), <span class='bible'>Rom 1:31<\/span>; <span class='bible'>2Ti 3:3<\/span>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;tenderly loving&#8221; (from philos, &#8220;friendly,&#8221; storge, see No. 1), is used in <span class='bible'>Rom 12:10<\/span>, RV, &#8220;tenderly affectioned&#8221; (AV, &#8220;kindly affectioned&#8221;). <\/p>\n<p> Notes: (1) Phroneo, &#8220;to think, to set the mind on,&#8221; implying moral interest and reflection, is translated &#8220;set your affection on&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Col 3:2<\/span>, AV (RV, &#8220;set your mind on&#8221;).
