Born in Appletree, Northamptonshire, England  on 24 October  1710 ; died  Saint-Omer, France  on 15 May 1773  of natural causes. After ordination he taught at the English College at Douai, and devoted himself to compiling &#8220;The Lives of the Fathers, Martyrs and Other Principal Saints,&#8221; the work by which he is best known.
