a-la (, alyah): One of the dukes, or heads of thousands of Edom (1Ch 1:51). In Gen 36:40 the name is Alvah (, alwah), the only difference being the change of the weaker , v, of Gen to the somewhat stronger, , y, of the later Chronicles, a change which is not infrequent in Hebrew. He is not to be confused, as in HDB, with the Alian of the same chapter.<\/p>\n
