He served an apprenticeship to a carpenter; but having a taste for learning he was sent to the academy kept by Dr. Doddridge. He was afterwards ordained minister of a Dissenting congregation at Daventry; and succeeded Dr. Doddridge as president of the academy, a post which he held with eminent success for twenty-three years. He died at Daventry in 1774.
