It suggests devotion of thought and effort to a thing. In <span class='bible'>1Ti 4:13<\/span> (in the exhortation regarding the public reading of the Scriptures), the RV translates it &#8220;give heed,&#8221; for the AV, &#8220;give attendance.&#8221; In <span class='bible'>Act 16:14<\/span>, &#8220;to give heed&#8221; (for AV, &#8220;attended&#8221;). See BEWARE, GIVE, No. 17, REGARD. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;to be steadfast,&#8221; a strengthened form of kartereo (pros, &#8220;towards,&#8221; intensive, karteros, &#8220;strong&#8221;), denotes to continue steadfastly in a thing and give unremitting care to it, e.g., <span class='bible'>Rom 13:6<\/span>, of rulers in the discharge of their functions. In the Sept., <span class='bible'>Num 13:21<\/span>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> lit., &#8220;sitting well beside&#8221; (eu, &#8220;well,&#8221; para, &#8220;beside,&#8221; hedra, &#8220;a seat&#8221;), i.e., sitting constantly by, and so applying oneself diligently to, anything, is used in <span class='bible'>1Co 7:35<\/span>, with pros, &#8220;upon,&#8221; &#8220;that ye may attend upon.&#8221; Some mss. have euprosedron. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> lit.,&#8221;an under-rower;&#8221; hence, &#8220;a servant,&#8221; is rendered &#8220;attendant&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Luk 4:20<\/span> and <span class='bible'>Act 13:5<\/span>, RV.
