Hence, the apostle saith, (Eph 5:14) &#8220;Awake, thou that and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.&#8221; Hence, the church saith,&#8221;I sleep, but my heart waketh.&#8221; (Son 5:2) Heace, the state my the unregenerate, who are never awakened, are described by the prophet under the image of a perpetual sleep. (Jer 51:57) Sometimes, the Lord himself is called upon by the church, under the image of awakening, to come to her deliverance, &#8220;Awake, awake, O arm of the Lord,&#8221; etc. (Isa 51:9) And the church, in like manner, is called upon by the Lord, Isa 51:17; Isa 52:1.<\/p>\n<h4 align='right'><i><b>Fuente: The Poor Mans Concordance and Dictionary to the Sacred Scriptures<\/b><\/i><\/h4>\n<h2>Awake<\/h2>\n<p>a-wak , yakac, to waken; , ur, to rouse up from sleep; , egero, to arouse from sleep): The ordinary terms for awaking from natural slumber: as of Jacob at Bethel (Gen 28:16); of Solomon at Gibeon (1Ki 3:15); of Jesus in the storm-tossed boat (Luk 8:24). Used figure with striking effect of awaking from mental, moral and spiritual sleep: as when Deborah calls upon herself to awake to the fervor and eloquence of poetry (Jdg 5:12); of Zion&#8217;s awaking to moral vigor and beauty (Isa 52:1); of waking from spiritual death (Eph 5:14); from the grave in resurrection (Dan 12:2). Poetically used of the rising north wind (Son 4:16); of music (Psa 108:2); of the sword in battle (Zec 13:7); of a lover&#8217;s affection (Son 2:7); of God Himself responding to prayer (Psa 59:4). Also used of moral awaking, as from drunkenness: , eknepho, to become sober (compare Joe 1:5).<\/p>\n<h4 align='right'><i><b>Fuente: International Standard Bible Encyclopedia<\/b><\/i><\/h4>\n<h2>Awake<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p> is used, (a) in the Active Voice, of &#8220;arousing a person from sleep;&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Mat 8:25<\/span> of the act of the disciples in awaking the Lord; in <span class='bible'>Act 12:7<\/span>, of the awaking of Peter, RV, &#8220;awake him;&#8221; (b) in the Passive Voice, with a Middle significance, of the virgins, in &#8220;arousing themselves&#8221; from their slumber, <span class='bible'>Mat 25:7<\/span>; in <span class='bible'>Rom 13:11<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Eph 5:14<\/span>, metaphorically, &#8220;of awaking from a state of moral sloth.&#8221; See ARISE, LIFT, RAISE, REAR, RISE, STAND, TAKE. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> is used of &#8220;awaking from natural sleep,&#8221; <span class='bible'>Mat 1:24<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mar 4:38<\/span>; of the act of the disciples in &#8220;awaking&#8221; the Lord, <span class='bible'>Luk 8:24<\/span> (cp. egeiro, in <span class='bible'>Mat 8:25<\/span>); metaphorically, &#8220;of arousing the mind,&#8221; <span class='bible'>2Pe 1:13<\/span>; <span class='bible'>2Pe 3:1<\/span>. See ARISE, RAISE, STIR UP. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> primarily, &#8220;to return to one&#8217;s sense from drunkenness to become sober,&#8221; is so used in the Sept., e.g., <span class='bible'>Gen 9:24<\/span>; metaphorically, in <span class='bible'>Joe 1:5<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Hab 2:7<\/span>; lit., in <span class='bible'>Hab 2:19<\/span>, of the words of an idolater to an image; in the NT in <span class='bible'>1Co 15:34<\/span>, &#8220;Awake up righteously and sin not&#8221; (RV), suggesting a return to soberness of mind from the stupor consequent upon the influence of evil doctrine. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> from ek, &#8220;out of,&#8221; and hupnos, &#8220;sleep,&#8221; &#8220;to rouse a person out of sleep,&#8221; is used metaphorically, in <span class='bible'>Joh 11:11<\/span>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> dia, intensive, gregoreo, &#8220;to watch,&#8221; is used in <span class='bible'>Luk 9:32<\/span>, RV, &#8220;were fully awake.&#8221; AV &#8220;were awake&#8221;. <\/p>\n<h4 align='right'><i><b>Fuente: Vine&#8217;s Dictionary of New Testament Words<\/b><\/i><\/h4>\n<h2>Awake<\/h2>\n<p>Psa 44:23 (b) David speaks to GOD as though He were not listening and indicates that he would like to ask GOD to wake up and listen to the call of his heart. David was on very intimate terms with GOD, and sometimes asked GOD to wake up, sometimes to &#8220;listen,&#8221; sometimes to bow down His ear, and sometimes to talk to him.<\/p>\n<p>Isa 52:1 (b) Here there is a call to the people of earth to wake up from their slumber of indifference, and to realize the wonderful gift of the garments of salvation which are offered to them. This applies particularly to Israel.<\/p>\n<p>Zec 13:7 (a) Here there is a call to GOD as though the sword of GOD, which is His wrath, were sleeping. The Lord calls on this sword to rouse itself, waken from sleep, and pierce the heart of the Lord JESUS, thus making Him the Saviour of men. The death of CHRIST on the Cross was planned by GOD Himself. CHRIST bore the sword of GOD&#8217;s wrath so that we might go free and be saved from wrath through Him.<\/p>\n<p>Rom 13:11 (a) The Lord&#8217;s people are represented as not being active and earnest in their work and as though they were asleep in the battlefield. GOD asks His people to awaken from their slumber and to prepare for His coming.<\/p>\n<p>Eph 5:14 (a) In this passage the people of GOD have become so like the unsaved around them, who are dead in their sins, and unresponsive to GOD, that the Lord says His people are asleep and just as indifferent as the ungodly.
