He embraced religion in his fourteenth year, and in 1826 entered the Maine Conference. During the following forty-eight years of his itinerancy, eighteen were effective, nine supernumerary, and twenty-one superannuated. He died Jan. 17, 1874. Mr. Ayre was characterized by sound judgment, fluency, energy, and deep piety. Overwork disabled him.
