In <span class='bible'>Mar 10:46<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Luk 18:35<\/span> certain mss. have this verb; the most authentic have prosaites, &#8220;a beggar,&#8221; a word used in <span class='bible'>Joh 9:8<\/span>, as well as the verb (see the RV). <\/p>\n<p> Note: &#8220;Begged&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Mat 27:58<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Luk 23:52<\/span>, RV, &#8220;asked for,&#8221; translates the verb aiteo; see ASK. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> an adjective describing &#8220;one who crouches and cowers,&#8221; is used as a noun, &#8220;a beggar&#8221; (from ptosso, &#8220;to cower down or hide oneself for fear&#8221;), <span class='bible'>Luk 14:13<\/span>, <span class='bible'>Luk 14:21<\/span> (&#8220;poor&#8221;); <span class='bible'>Luk 16:20<\/span>, <span class='bible'>Luk 16:22<\/span>; as an adjective &#8220;beggarly&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Gal 4:9<\/span>, i.e., poverty-stricken, powerless to enrich, metaphorically descriptive of the religion of the Jews. <\/p>\n<p> While prosaites is descriptive of a &#8220;beggar,&#8221; and stresses his &#8220;begging,&#8221; ptochos stresses his poverty-stricken condition.
