He graduated at Yale College, 1814; studied theology at Andover, and was ordained as a home missionary in 1818. He served successively the churches in Vernon, Conn., 1824 to 1830; Pomfret, 1831 to 1834; Manlius, N. Y., 1837 to 1841; Norwich, Conn., 1845 to 1846; Yorktown, N. Y., 1855 to 1856, when he was disabled by an accident to a steam- engine at Stamford, and died three weeks after in the house of a son-in-law in Brooklyn, N. Y., Nov. 17, 1856. For a time he was principal of a female seminary in New Haven. He was a discriminating theologian, a diligent student, a sound and earnest preacher, an assiduous pastor, and faithful friend. Mr. Benedict published a work entitled A Biblical Trinity (1850). See Cong.
