Beyth- Tappu&#8217;ach,  , apple-house, i.e. orchard; Sept.  v.r. ), a town of Judah, in the mountainous district, and near Hebron (Jos 15:53; comp. 1Ch 2:43), where it has been discovered by Robinson (Researches, 2, 428) under the modern name of Teffuh, 1.25 hour, about five miles, west of Hebron, on a ridge of high table-land. The terraces of the ancient cultivation still remain in use; and though the apples have disappeared, yet olive-groves and vineyards, with fields of grain, surround the place on every side (Schwarz, Palest. p. 105). SEE APPLE.<\/p>\n<p>The simple name of Tappuah was borne by another town of Judah, which lay in the rich lowland of the Shefela (Joshua 14:34). SEE TAPPUAH. The village of Tuffuh, 3 1\/2 miles Northwest of Hebron, is the probable site; it stands on the edge of a high ridge, surrounded by very fruitful gardens; an ancient highroad runs through the village, and there are many old cisterns and caves.
