As a scholar his attainments were of the highest order. To the German Lutherans he was well known as a correspondent of the Kirchenfreund, especially by his letters on Japan. After two years of missionary labor, he became a teacher of German in Nebraska College, Nebraska City, where he died, Sept. 15, 1879.
