After preliminary study at the academies at Williams Centre and Neville, he was a member, for one year, of Oberlin College. For five years he was a teacher in Butler, Ind., and for two years in Edgerton,  In 1871 he graduated from Otterbein University, and then, in 1873-74. studied theology in Oberlin. Previous to this time, in 1869, he had been ordained by the United Brethren. In 1872 he became acting-pastor of the Congregational Church at Edgerton, and during the two years following held the same position at Fitchville. On account of impaired health he removed to a farm at Edgerton, where he became principal of a school. He died Jan. 14, 1880. See Cong.
