She had no early education; married a painter of Ellington, Connecticut; lived a humble and painful, but Christian life, and died at Marshall, Illinois. October 10, 1861. Among her hymns the most noted is &#8220;I love to steal awhile away,&#8221; written in 1818, and included with others in Nettleton&#8217;s Village Hymns (1824). She also wrote for the newspapers, and was the  author of several tracts and a series of tales, entitled The Tree and its Fruits (N.Y. 1836). See (N.Y.)
