As a child he was a Sunday-school scholar; as a young man, first a school- teacher, and then a pastor for several years at Ravenstonedale, Westmoreland, where his labors were abundant. In 1846 he undertook &#8220;A Ragged and Industrial School,&#8221; which greatly flourished under his care. During his twenty-five years in the industrial school he did not relinquish the pulpit, but was a favorite supply. He died December 11, 1871. See (Lond.) Cong.
